In July 2025, the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act (HALT Fentanyl Act) was signed into law. While the law’s primary focus is on law enforcement, it also contains significant reforms to the process for obtaining registration to conduct research with Schedule I substances from the DEA.
In light of these policy changes, BrainFutures created a user-friendly FAQ to help researchers understand what the HALT Fentanyl Act means for their work.
If you are a researcher who is interested in working with BrainFutures to advocate for reduced barriers to Schedule I research, please contact us. Opportunities to get involved could include writing or speaking, advocacy with Members of Congress, educating federal officials, and more.
