July Brain Facts

Tuesday, July 31, 2018

Brain experts agree that although our knowledge of the brain has changed drastically in recent years, there is more to learn.

Here are our top three fascinating brain facts of the month:

  1. Your brain generates enough electricity to power a 25-watt light bulb.
  2. There are no pain receptors in the brain. While your brain detects and processes pain in tandem with your spinal cord, you actually can’t feel someone poking at your brain tissue — which is why surgeons are able to perform brain surgery while you’re awake.
  3. Every time you recall a memory or have a new thought, you create a connection in the brain. Your brain is literally made of memories, and memories constantly remake your brain.
