BrainFutures Visits National Mental Health Innovation Center

Friday, July 20, 2018

Last week, members of the BrainFutures team visited the National Mental Health Innovation Center (NMHIC) at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus. NMHIC was founded in 2015 to reduce stigma about mental health treatment and help create a world where mental health is as valued as physical health, prevention and early care are the norm and quality treatment is accessible in every community.

Dr. Mimi McFaul, Director of Digital Initiatives, shared with us how researchers are collaborating to find new mental healthcare solutions that can be quickly and effectively scaled to help more people, earlier.

NMHIC is championing the use of digital technology to improve mental health outcomes and reduce barriers to effective care. Dr. Walter Greenleaf, NMHIC’s Director of Technology Strategy, spoke at the 2017 BrainFutures Conference about transforming healthcare through Virtual Reality. VR can be used to treat a wide range of mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury, addictions, autism and cognitive decline.
